Dr Urwah KHAN

As part of the Research & Projects team at GCMD, Urwah is involved in research projects related to maritime decarbonisation, transport strategic operational support, sustainability advisory services, meeting climate finance targets, and up-streaming sustainable transport dialogue with national governments and private sector partners, including energy companies.
Prior to joining GCMD, Urwah worked with the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a Research and Operations Consultant focussing on the monitoring and evaluation of the transport sector projects in the Asia Pacific region. He also worked with World Bank on Development Policy Operations of the Infrastructure, Finance, PPPs, and Gurantees Group as a consultant. He was ADB Rapporteur on the 14th high-level regional EST forum that was held from 18 to 20 October 2021 in Japan, and was part of the joint dialogue team led by UNCRD/UN DESA for intergovernmental consultations on the decarbonisation of the transport and energy sector. As an International Monetary Fund (IMF) Fellow 2021, Urwah also worked with IMF senior management and staff to discuss current global economic issues, including inclusive growth, inequality, digital economy and climate change. From 2015 to 2017, Urwah worked with National Logistics Cell, which is the private sector arm of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms in Pakistan.
Urwah received his Ph.D. from Nagoya University, Japan as a MEXT (Japanese Govt.) scholar focussing on hydrogen economy, climate change, and decarbonisation of the transport and energy sector.
