Associate, Research & Projects
Li Chen is an Associate in the Research & Projects team at the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation, supporting our assurance framework for drop-in green fuels initiative.
Prior to joining GCMD, Li Chen was a Research Engineer at the Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence at the Nanyang Technological University. His research interests are in decarbonisation solutions, alternative fuels, and technology deployments. A marine engineer by training and with close to two decades of experience in the marine industry, Chen has first-hand experience onboard ocean-going ships, servicing and operating onboard machineries.
Before pivoting to research, he worked with engine suppliers and was responsible for engineering and technical aspects. Chen was involved in project management, including creating project frameworks, establishing project criteria, coordinating with stakeholders, and preparing field test plans. Li Chen credits the sharpening of his experiences and practical skills to his intensive involvement in systems commissioning.
Li Chen graduated from the Nanyang Technological University with a Master's degree from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Li Chen enjoys cooking. He once had dreams of becoming a chef and had taken classes at a culinary school in Chinese cuisine before moving to Singapore. Li Chen also likes to watch movies. The Pursuit of Happyness is his favourite ever, not only because of the actors but also because of the inspirational storyline.
